UNCERTAINTY IN UNCERTAIN combined technique, 2020 - 2021, JOINT project withAndrea Cihlar
After many years, our reunion took place at the end of January 2020 at an art colony where our first spontaneous collaboration took place during work. In a fit of excitement, we mentioned that one day we could really achieve a similar artistic collaboration.
Soon, the busy world suddenly slowed down. A pandemic appeared and life circumstances changed quite quickly. With this set of circumstances, the idea of cooperation got its chance and started in mid-April. Each of us made about 50 works on which, considering the personal way of expression, we left our characteristic mark on paper. Jasmina with her coloristic approach, while Andrea's work was reduced to lines and shapes.
Due to adherence to epidemiological precautions, cooperation was limited to sending physically executed works to each other by mail. While waiting for the shipments, we were in complete uncertainty. We didn't have any prior insight into how our works looked like. Through his own artistic contribution, that is, by completing "other people's" work, communication took place and as such was recorded in each individual work. After the works, our communication continued more actively via phone, e-mail and some applications. This was followed by combining the works and backgrounds, photography, scanning, discussion of the works, selection, etc. For our project, we used different types of paper and dimensions, and as the backgrounds of the works we chose two types of dimensions, A4 and A3 format and white, light gray, dark gray , black and light brown textured background.
The goal of this project is an uncertain collaboration between two artists without physical contact. Considering the current unfortunate circumstances in the world, we wanted to maintain a positive spirit through the idea of art as a game. Such a Ludistic approach to work is also felt in its basis, which is based on previously determined "rules" and "boundaries", where the course and outcome, despite the initiative of the participant's freedom, are completely uncertain. Also, apart from being adapted to temporal "rules", it was also adapted to spatial "rules".
This experience contributed to us in an artistic, but also emotional aspect in this period of social isolation. It acted as a personal challenge in which, on the basis of trust, we were faced with encroaching on other people's work, thereby also on other people's intimacy, and we also overcame the subconscious pressure from ruining other people's work. In this way, we focused our attention on something positive and exciting.
