TRACES OF THE PASTphoto series, 2017.

The past is part of us, part of our life. This is a photographic story about the oldest and largest cinema in Croatia - the Edison cinema. The Edison cinema was built in 1920, and it kept its purpose as a cinema for decades. In 1999, the Edison cinema closed its doors forever, and the generally bad economic situation in the country was cited as the reason for its closure.

The "Traces of the Past" project itself took place during a residency in Karlovac, where I learned from the residents of Karlovac themselves what the Edison cinema used to be like and what it meant to the city of Karlovac. Many years ago, the Edison Cinema was full of people, noise, crying, laughter, and now all that remains are the walls and things that are still there and waiting for their time to come again.

In the photographs, I do not show the entire premises of the cinema, but its details, features, things that are inside, which show the neglect and oblivion of the once social place. So, with the photos, I am not giving the entire description of the cinema, but only a small part, one small but significant frame.
